Friend sessions: talking about identity and passions.
“I got this T-shirt over 20 years ago when I was 15 – it has a hole in the side from carrying my skateboard but I can’t bear to let it go. It was made by my favourite skate company, Foundation Skateboards. At the time I thought they were the best – they had the best team, all the videos they brought out were amazing, and it brings back memories of the 90s skateboarding scene, when I was skating all day and night through my teenage years.
When I was around 10 years old, living in Kent – me and my mates would see this older guy called Mario – we’d be hanging around and he’d come flying past on his skateboard and be gone just as quick – he was a local legend – a mythical skate creature that was real – he was our main influence into skating. At first we would take turns on my mate’s skateboard and go down hills on our bums.
Skating feels the same now as it did when I was 10 – the feeling of camaraderie, having fun and pushing boundaries with friends. It makes me feel focused and distracted from normal life – it’s therapy.” Peter
